Medicare Advantage Plan Checklist

Not sure what you need to do for the next Medicare Open Enrollment Period?

We’ve broken it down into five simple steps. It’s important to review these steps each year, even if you plan on keeping your current Medicare Advantage Plan.

Step 1: Make sure you know the important dates.

The Medicare Open Enrollment Period runs from October 15, 2021 through December 7, 2021.

Step 2: Find out what your options are.

The Medicare Open Enrollment Period is one of the few times you can make changes to your Medicare plan. Here’s what you can do during this period:

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan.
  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare.
  • Change Medicare Advantage Plans.
  • Enroll in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.
  • Change Medicare Prescription Drug Plans.
  • Disenroll from a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.

Step 3: Read about plan changes.

If you already have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you should receive an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) from your provider.

Review this document carefully to make sure you understand any changes in your plan, such as benefits, service areas or costs.

You should receive this document before the Medicare Open Enrollment Period starts.

Step 4: Determine which benefits you want.

Whether you’re switching Medicare Advantage Plans or enrolling for the first time, you should first determine your needs.

To do that, consider the following questions:

  • Do I need vision, dental or prescription drug benefits?
  • Does the plan offer any additional benefits?
  • Are my prescriptions covered?
  • Is my doctor in network?
  • Can I use out-of-network facilities?
  • Can I afford the monthly payments and out-of-pocket costs?

Step 5: Compare plans.

Once you have a better idea of your needs, you should compare all your options. The easiest way to compare Amerigroup Medicare Advantage Plans is to speak with a licensed agent.
